The Startgemeinschaft, or SG Dortmund for short, is an amalgamation of the swimming departments of six Dortmund sports clubs with a total of over 4000 members. The number of active swimmers is 400. The 1st men's team of the SG, which appears under the self-chosen nickname SG-Unit , was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga swimming in the 2006/07 season , the women's team starts in the 2nd Bundesliga West.

The 1st team of SG Dortmund can boast numerous successes:

  • 1st place of the men's team at the German Long Track Championships 2008 with the 4 × 100 m layer relay in the German record time of 3: 40.68 (cast: Robert Könneker, Philipp Cool, Alexander Crasmöller, Marius Dittrich)
  • 1st place of the men's team at the German Short Course Championships (DKM) 2007 with the 4 × 50 m layer relay (cast: Robert Könneker, Philipp Cool, Alexander Crasmöller, Marius Dittrich)
  • 3rd place 2007 of the men's team at the German Team Championships (DMS) in the 1st Bundesliga swimming
  • German champion 2007 with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay (cast: Robert Könneker, Marcel Berghammer, Dominik Keil, Marius Dittrich)
  • German winter champion 2006 with the 4 × 50 m individual medley relay in a German record time of 1: 42.78 (cast: Dominik Keil, Philipp Cool, Marius Dittrich, Robert Könneker)
  • German champion 2006 with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay (cast: Axel Könneker, Marius Dittrich, Dominik Keil, Robert Könneker)

The Masters division of SG Dortmund is also very successful:

  • German team champion of the Masters 1999, 2004 & 2005
  • Corinna Miede: age group European champion age group 25 in Millau 2003 over 200 m freestyle
  • Ute Cimdins: age group European champion age group 45 in Millau 2003 over 50 m back
  • Michael Prüfert: Age group European champion age group 40 in Stockholm 2005 over 400 m freestyle

Club

The club pool is the Südbad , which was renovated from December 2003 to February 2007 and now again meets international requirements as a competition venue. During the years of renovation, the association used the Brackel indoor pool and the Dortmund north pool as a training facility. Several outdoor pools in Dortmund were used in the summer. After the completion of the south bath renovation, the internationally known swimming festival ISDO, which takes place every December, will be re-imposed.
