The 118th German Swimming Championships took place from June 20 to 25, 2006 in the swimming and diving hall in the European Sports Park Berlin and were organized by the German Swimming Association . A total of 1436 athletes from 273 clubs took part in 40 competitions. During the championships, Helge Meeuw (SC Wiesbaden ) set two new European records, on the one hand in the individual competition over 200 m back and on the other hand as the starting swimmer in his 4 × 100 m individual relay over 100 m back. It was also of Britta Steffen ( SG Neukölln a new) German record over 100m freestyle swimming.

Remarks

The 4 × 100 m individual medley relay of SC Wiesbaden was only fourth in the final, despite a new European record for the starting swimmer Helge Meeuw of 00: 53.46 minutes over 100 m backstroke.
