The 129th German Swimming Championships took place from June 15 to 18, 2017 for the 14th time in a row in the swimming and diving hall in the Europa Sport Park Berlin and were organized by the German Swimming Association . Titles were awarded in 42 competitions, with eleven swimmers each winning two titles.

World Cup qualification

The competition also served as qualification for the 2017 World Championships in Budapest . In the heats and finals, the athletes had to undercut the standard times set by the German Swimming Association in order to secure a place for Budapest. For young swimmers, the U23 standard times were weakened. Up to two athletes per gender and per route could then qualify for the world championships. Athletes who were nominated for the 2017 World Championships were also nominated for the 2017 European Short Course Championships in Copenhagen .

Attendees

The 100 fastest swimmers and relays in Germany (open class) of the current season (December 1, 2016 up to and including June 2, 2017) were eligible for each route.

656 swimmers from 185 clubs were registered for 1703 individual starts and 289 relay teams. With 23 players each, Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 and Potsdamer SV made up the largest teams in terms of numbers. In addition to the members of the German clubs, athletes with German citizenship were also allowed to start, so that four athletes each started for a foreign club (UWA West Coast SC Perth ( Australia ), Chelsea Westminster SC ( United Kingdom ), UWCESEA Swim Club ( Singapore ) and Dynamo Club Atlanta ( USA )).

Records

Sporting highlights of the championship were the German records of Philip Heintz over 200 meters individual medley (in the preliminary and final), Jessica Steiger over 100 meters chest, Aliena Schmidtke over 50 meters butterfly and Lisa Graf over 200 meters back.

German age class records for young people have been improved ten times: Maya Tobehn over 50 meters butterfly, Luca Nik Armbruster over 50 meters and 100 meters butterfly, Laura Riedemann over 50 meters back and over 100 meters back each (in the preliminary and final), Maxine Wolters over 100 meters Back, Wassili Kuhn over 50 meters chest and Angelina Köhler over 50 meters freestyle.
