Rob Muffels (born December 8, 1994 in Elmshorn ) is a German open water swimmer . He belongs to the SC Magdeburg and is multiple German champion and vice world champion of the year 2015 over 5 kilometers.

successes

Like many open water swimmers, the 1.87 m tall muffle began his swimming career in the pool. At the 2012 European Youth Championships, for example, there was a victory in the 800 m and a second place in the 1500 m freestyle . At the European Short Course Championships 2012 in Chartres , he was 20th over 1500 m and 33rd over 400 m.

At the youth world championship of the same year he then won both the 7.5 km and the 5 km. In the senior category at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona he was 11th over 5 km in 53: 38.5 min.

He won the first German championship title in 2013 over 10 km in 1: 56: 56.90 hours. He finished second over 5 km. He achieved the same results a year later . In 2015 he finally had to admit defeat to Sören Meißner on the one hand and Ferry Weertman from the Netherlands over 5 and 10 km on Lake Constance near Lindau .

At the European Championships in 2014 on the Berlin-Grünau regatta course , he was vice European champion over 5 km and, together with Thomas Lurz and Isabelle Härle, third in the German 5 km team.

His greatest success to date was at the 2015 World Championships on the Kasanka in Kazan, Russia : Only the better stop decided over the 5 km at the same time for the South African Chad Ho in 55: 17.6 minutes and Muffels was ahead of silver by a long way the Italian Matteo Furlan (55: 20.0).

At the 2019 World Championships , he was third over 10 km in the victory of his teammate Florian Wellbrock .
