Chad Ho (born June 21, 1990 in Johannesburg , according to other information in Durban ) is a South African freestyle swimmer who specializes in the open water disciplines. In 2015 he became world champion over 5 km.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , he finished 9th in the first ever 10 km Olympic marathon in a time of 1: 52: 13.1 hours (winner here is Dutchman Maarten van der Weijden , 1: 51: 51.6 ).
The swimming world championships in Rome in 2009 brought him bronze over 5 km in 56: 41.9 minutes behind Thomas Lurz (56: 26.9) and the Greek Spyros Gianniotis (56: 27.2).
At the World Swimming Championships in Barcelona in 2013 he was 4th over 5 km, with 53: 33.7 minutes only 1.5 s behind bronze medalist Thomas Lurz; over 10 km he was 8th in 1: 49: 26.3 h.
The 2015 World Swimming Championships on the Kazanka River in Kazan , Russia brought him gold in the heartbeat final over 5 km in 55: 17.6 at the same time ahead of the German Rob Muffels and the bronze medalist, the Italian Matteo Furlan (55: 20.0).
With six successes, Chad Ho is the record winner over the Midmar Mile on the Midmar reservoir north of Pietermaritzburg in South Africa. He is also a multiple national champion in his country.
