The championships for 2017 were organized by the European swimming federation LEN . The venue was the Royal Arena , which opened in early February 2017. The short course EM was the first major sporting event in the new arena and offered around 12,500 spectators.

Application process

Denmark, which is hosting a European short course championship for the second time after the European short course EM 2013 ( Danish : EM (Europamesterskabet) på kortbane 2013 ) in the Herninger Jyske Bank Kasten, defeated competitors when applying for the venue for the 2017 European short course from Poland and Italy through. The Danish application was drawn up by the organizations Dansk Svømmeunion , Sport Event Denmark and Wonderful Copenhagen . On October 9, 2015, the decision for Copenhagen was announced by LEN President Paolo Barelli .

mascot

The official presentation of the EM mascot was in December 2016, when the mermaid "Dana" was presented in the almost completed multifunctional hall Royal Arena in Copenhagen. The mascot wearing a Viking helmet was created as part of a Danish competition and symbolizes the swimming athletes and swimming clubs from Denmark.
