Radosław Kawęcki (born August 16, 1991 in Głogów ) is a Polish back swimmer . At the short course world championships in 2012, 2014 and 2016 he was world champion over 200 m back.
successes
Kawęcki won seven titles at European short course championships. At the 2009 in Istanbul he had to finish second over the 200 m back in 1: 49.13 minutes. behind the Russian Stanislaw Donez (1: 48.62). In 2011 in his home country in Szczecin , he won two gold medals in the 100 and 200 m in his specialty discipline (50.43 and 1: 49.15). Over 100 m he defeated the Spaniard Aschwin Wildeboer Faber (50.61) and over 200 m the same opponent (1: 50.63). In 2012 in Chartres he won over 200 m in 1: 48.51 minutes ahead of the Hungarian Péter Bernek (1: 49.41). In 2013 in Herning he was successful over 200 m, in 2015 again over both distances and in 2019 over 200 m.
Kawęcki was European champion on the long course in 2012 in Debrecen over 200 m in 1: 55.28 min (CR) again ahead of Péter Bernek (1: 55.88). He defended this title in Berlin in 2014 and in London in 2016 , and came second in Glasgow in 2018 .
At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Kawęcki was seventh in the 200 m in 1: 55.62 minutes, when Aaron Peirsol won in the world record time of 1: 51.92 minutes. On December 16, 2012, he won his first World Championship title at the Short Course World Championships in the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul . In the final over 200 m back he was the first to hit in 1: 48.48 min, two hundredths of a second ahead of the American Ryan Lochte . In 2014 in Doha and 2016 in Windsor , he again won gold on his parade route. At world championships on the 50-meter track, he won the silver medal over 200 m in 2013 in Barcelona and 2015 in Kazan .
At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , Kawęcki finished fourth in 1: 55.59 minutes. In this race, Tyler Clary (1: 53.41, OR) won ahead of the Japanese Ryosuke Irie (1: 53.78) and Ryan Lochte (1.53.94). In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro , he was eliminated in the preliminary stages.
