Ryosuke Irie
Ryōsuke Irie ( Japanese 入 江 陵 介 , Irie Ryōsuke ; born January 24, 1990 in Osaka ) is a Japanese swimmer .
Career
Today's student (2012) at Kinki University began his swimming career during middle school. In 2005 he won the National High School Championship over 200 m back. In the following year he was able to beat the best time for high school students on this route. During a competition in Canberra, Australia, he swam the 200m back in 1: 52.86, marking a new Japanese record. Although he had undercut the world record of Ryan Lochte (set at the Olympic Games in Beijing ) by 1.08 seconds with this record , the Fédération Internationale de Natation did not recognize him because he had worn unapproved swimming shorts.
- 2012 Summer Olympics
At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Irie won three medals: he was third over 100 meters back in 52.97 seconds, over 200 meters back he was second in 1: 53.78 minutes and he won the silver medal in the Japanese individual medley.
