The 19th European Swimming Championships took place in Bonn from August 15 to August 20, 1989 and were organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN).

The 1989 European Swimming Championships included competitions in swimming , art and tower diving , synchronized swimming , and the two water polo tournaments. The competitions were held in the Römerbad in the Bonn-Castell district .

The open water competitions took place in Stari Gradi ( Croatia ).
