The 20th European Swimming Championships took place from August 18 to August 25, 1991 in the Athens suburb of Marousi and were organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN).

The 1991 European Swimming Championships included competitions in swimming , art and tower diving , synchronized swimming and the two water polo tournaments. The competitions were held at the Athens Water Sports Center , which was used for the 2004 Summer Olympics.

The European Open Water Swimming Championships were held from September 14th to 15th in Italy in Terracina ( Italy ).
