Patrick Kühl (born March 26, 1968 in Güstrow ) is a former German world-class swimmer on the individual layers .

Patrick Kühl initially started for ASK Vorwärts Potsdam , later for OSC Potsdam and finally for SC Magdeburg . He celebrated his first international success at the European Swimming Championships in Strasbourg in 1987 , where he was third in over 400 meters behind Tamás Darnyi and József Szabó . A year later, Kühl achieved his greatest success at the Summer Olympics in Seoul , where he won the silver medal over 200 meters behind Darnyi. On his parade route over 400 meters, however, he was only fifth. In August 1989 he set a GDR record of 4: 16.08 minutes in the 400 meter medley, which later remained the German record for almost 20 years and was only beaten by Yannick Lebherz in June 2009 . On the short course he set a European record in February 1990 with 4: 12.02 minutes, which Jani Sievinen broke two years later . Even at the European Swimming Championships in Bonn in 1989 , Kühl again only had to admit defeat to Darnyi in the 400 meter medley. In 1990 he won his first German championship title on his parade route, which he defended in 1991 , 1992 and 1993 . In 1987 he had won the title at the GDR championships for the first time. In 1991, at the European Swimming Championships in Athens in 1991, Kühl won his last international medal behind Luca Sacchi over 400 meter medley with silver. Last major international event was the 1992 Olympic Games of Barcelona . On the 400 meter individual medley course, Kühl finished sixth.

In 1988 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Silver for winning the silver medal in Seoul .
