European championships in diving

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Championships in Diving are of the Ligue Européenne de Natation discharged (LEN) European Championships in Diving .

The first European championships in diving took place in 1926 as part of the first European swimming championships. The competitions were held at irregular intervals until 1947 and every four years from 1950 to 1974. After a European Championship in 1977, a two-year rhythm was introduced from 1981, which means that European swimming championships were held in every odd year. From the year 2000 this rhythm was shifted to the even years. Since 2009, pure European diving championships have also taken place in odd years, so that European championships have been determined every year since then - in even years as part of the European swimming championships and in odd years at independent championships. An exception was the year 2012, in which the European Swimming Championships were originally supposed to take place in Antwerp and were relocated to Debrecen for financial reasons, so that the art and high diving were held separately in Eindhoven.

In 1926 there were initially only two competitions for the 3-meter board and the 10-meter tower for men, but from 1927 there were also competitions for women. In 1989, jumping from the 1-meter board was added to the program, and in 1997 the synchronized competitions from the 3-meter board and 10-meter tower followed. A mixed team competition has also been held since 2010.
