The 24th European Swimming Championships took place in Istanbul from July 22nd to August 1st, 1999 and were organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN). The competitions were held in the Atakoy Olympic Swimming Stadium.
The 1999 European Swimming Championships included competitions in swimming , art and tower diving , synchronized swimming and open water swimming . The two water polo tournaments took place separately for the first time and were held a month later in Florence (men) and Prato (women).
