Chantal Groot (born October 19, 1982 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch swimmer .

Career

Groot's parade route is the 50 meter butterfly. Between 2000 and 2008 she took part in three Summer Olympic Games . 2000 in Sydney she took part only in relay decisions with the Dutch relay. Together with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay, she won the silver medal. She swam in the lead for the top swimmer Inge de Bruijn , who spared herself for the final. With the 4 × 200 meter freestyle and 4 × 100 meter layer relay, she took eleventh and 14th place respectively.

Four years later at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , she won the bronze medal with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay. Unlike in Sydney, she swam in the final with Inge Dekker , Marleen Veldhuis and Inge de Bruijn. She was also 21st in the 100 meter butterfly and sixth with the Dutch 4 × 100 meter medley relay.

Her greatest success so far was winning the gold medal over 50 meters butterfly at the European Swimming Championships 2008 in her own country, in Eindhoven . There she qualified as sixth over 100 meters butterfly for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , where she finally over this distance finished 30th.

In April 2008, at the World Short Course Championships in Manchester , she was sixth over the 100 meter butterfly.

Records

She set numerous European records together with the Dutch freestyle relay . At the European Short Course Championships in Dublin in 2003 and in Trieste in 2005 , she improved the 4 × 50 meter freestyle European record .

When she won the title in the 4 × 100 meter freestyle at the 2006 World Short Course Championships in Shanghai , she struck together with Marleen Veldhuis, Inge Dekker and Hinkelien Schreuder in the new world record time of 3: 33.32 minutes.
