Angela Maurer (born July 27, 1975 in Wiesbaden ) is a German swimmer , two-time world champion (2006, 2009), multiple World Cup winner (2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2011), German champion (2009, 2012) and double European champion ( 2006) and two-time Olympian (2008, 2012). Maurer celebrates successes especially in long distance competitions in open water .

Career

In 1996 Angela Maurer started swimming in open water at the age of 21 and qualified for the European Championships a year later.
Angela Maurer started for the SSV Undine 08 e. V. Mainz and trains together with Dimitri Colupaev and Marc-Oliver Stein in Nikolai Evseev's training group in Mainz . Professionally, the police commissioner candidate has been completing a police college degree in the elite sports promotion group of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since September 1, 2007.

2008 Summer Olympics

At the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing in 2008, she finished fourth in the 10 km marathon swim, just under a second behind bronze.

In 2009 she won the 10 km course at the German Open Water Swimming Championships in Lindau (Lake Constance) (2: 01: 31.43 h) and thus got a ticket for the World Championships in Rome (July 18 until August 2, 2009). There she won the distance over 25 km (5: 47: 48.0 h) on July 25, 2009 and was the best German over 10 km in fifth place (2: 01: 40.9 h).

Before the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , Maurer was among the five athletes with Beate Gauß , Christina Schütze , Christin Steuer and Regina Sergeeva who posed naked in the German edition of Playboy .

2012 Summer Olympics

At the Olympic Games in London in 2012, she finished fifth over 10 km with a time of 1: 57: 52.8 h.

Angela Maurer came 15th in the election for Sportswoman of the Year 2013.

At the World Cup in Setubal , Portugal , in June 2017, she and Finnia Wunram , Rob Muffels and Christian Reichert qualified over 10 km for the World Cup in Hungary (July 14th to 30th, 2017). Angela Maurer finished 14th on July 16 at the 2017 World Swimming Championships over the 10 km in 2: 01: 53.3 h. For health reasons, the then 41-year-old had to start five days later at a planned start at the World Cup race over 25 km in Lake Balaton .

Private

Maurer is married. She is trained by her husband Nikolai Evseev and the two live with their son in Wiesbaden.
