Open water world championships 2006

The 2006 Open Water World Championships took place in Naples from August 29 to September 3, 2006 . There were individual competitions for women and men in open water swimming over distances of 5, 10 and 25 kilometers.

The 2006 open water world championships were heavily influenced by the German side. Three of the six titles went to German athletes: Larissa Iltschenko won over 5 and 10 kilometers and Angela Maurer over 25 kilometers. In the men's category, Thomas Lurz won the 5 and 10 kilometer titles, Josh Santacaterina won the 25 kilometer championship.
