Burmannia longifolia is a species ofthe Burmanniaceae family . It is native to Malesia ( Thailand , Philippines , Borneo , Sumatra , Java , Malaysia , New Guinea ).

description

Burmannia longifolia is a perennial, leaf-green, unbranched to very rarely branched herbaceous plant that reaches a stature height of 30 to 75, rarely 9 to 100 centimeters. It is not mycotrophic . The rhizome is cylindrical and 2 to 18 centimeters, the roots fibrous and multiply branched.

The leaves are linear, 3.5 to 20 centimeters long and 3.5 to 10 millimeters wide. They are in a two-line arrangement, decreasing towards the top. The inflorescence is a double wrap, usually consisting of 15 to 25 drooping flowers . The almost sessile flowers are 8 to 20 millimeters long and greenish white, on the outside pale purple. The flower tube is cylindrical and 2.8 to 5.3 millimeters long, the wings are extremely reduced and run from below the base of the flower lobes to the middle of the ovary. The outer lobes are triangular, pointed and curled at the edge and 1.7 to 3.5 millimeters long, the inner broad, inverted egg-shaped, rounded at the tip, curled up and 1.5 to 2.2 millimeters long. The stamens are sessile or have a short, thick stalk and start in the flower envelope below the approach of the inner flower lobes, the connective has two short, lateral arms that carry the thecae . The stylus is thread-shaped and as long as the flower tube, at its end are the three almost sessile, trumpet-shaped stigmas .

The ovaries are elliptical to inverted egg-shaped and 3.8 to 10 millimeters long. The capsule opens along irregular transverse slits. The seeds are numerous, chip-shaped and yellow.

distribution

Burmannia longifolia is native to Malesia (Thailand, Philippines, Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Malaysia, New Guinea) and is found as an epiphyte on moss cushions, rocks or tree stumps at altitudes between 1500 and 2300 meters, rarely also lower.

Systematics

The species was first described by Odoardo Beccari in 1877 .
