Poliana Okimoto (born March 8, 1983 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian open water swimmer . In 2013 she became world champion over 10 kilometers.

Career

Okimoto has been swimming since she was a teenager, including in competitions. In 2005 she won the Travessia dos Fortes in Rio de Janeiro, an open water event organized by the Brazilian army over 3.9 kilometers, which leads from Forte de Copacabana to Forte do Leme .

The open water world championships in Naples in 2006 brought her silver over 5 and over 10 kilometers. In both disciplines she was only defeated by the Russian Larissa Dmitrijewna Iltschenko . Over 5 kilometers she referred Britta Kamrau to third place. At the Pan American Games in 2007 , she won silver over 10 kilometers in Rio, a success that she repeated four years later at the same event in Guadalajara, Mexico.
