Britta Kamrau (born April 6, 1979 in Rostock ) is a former German long-distance swimmer .

Career

Kamrau attended the CJD Jugenddorf-Christophorusschule Rostock until her Abitur in 1998 .

It started for the SC Empor Rostock 2000. Its routes are usually between 5 and 25 km, sometimes longer. In 2002 she became world champion at the open water world championships in Sharm El-Sheikh over 10 km and also won bronze over 25 km. At the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona , she won the bronze medal over 5 km and the silver medal over 25 km. In 2004 she achieved a double at the World Open Water Swimming Championships in Dubai : she became world champion over the 10 and 25 km.

At the 2005 World Championships she fought a thrilling 25 km race with Edith van Dijk from the Netherlands . They finished tied. First, Kamrau was proclaimed world champion with a tenth of a second advantage. A little later, the jury decided that van Dijk had won by three tenths of a second. Kamrau remained the silver medal.

She won the world championship title over 25 km at the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne. On March 25, 2007 she won sovereign with 2:27 minutes ahead of the American Kalyn Keller and the Russian Xenia Popowa . The day before, the race had been stopped halfway through the route due to weather conditions, at a time when Kamrau was already clearly in the lead. The next day the race was continued with the remaining half, the swimmers started the competition with the time gap of the previous day.

On November 26th, 2005 she reached the 2nd place of the TV-total- high diving . On November 24, 2007, she achieved the same success again. In 2009 and 2011, she also took part in the TV Total Tower Diving both individually and in synchronized diving with the beach volleyball player Ilka Semmler.

Britta Kamrau studied law at the University of Rostock and completed her legal clerkship in Rostock. On June 27, 2012, she was appointed as a probationary judge in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
