Alison Sheppard , MBE (born November 5, 1972 in Glasgow , United Kingdom ) is a former British swimmer .

Career

Alison Sheppard comes from the Scottish Glasgow and already took in 1988 at the age of 15 years at the Olympic Games in Seoul in part. However, it was not until 1998 that it celebrated its greatest success with medals at the Commonwealth Games and World and European Championships, especially on the short course. Her special courses were 50 m and 100 m freestyle as well as 50 m butterfly and 100 m medley (short course).

Sheppard took part in five Olympic Games in a row: 1988 in Seoul, 1992 in Barcelona , 1996 in Atlanta , 2000 in Sydney and 2004 in Athens . Her best placement was a fifth place with the British relay over 4 × 100 m freestyle 2000 in Sydney.

She ended her career in 2005.

Alison Sheppard was inducted into the Order of the British Empire in 2003 and the Scottish Swimming Association Hall of Fame in 2010 . She is now a trainer and, together with her husband, the Canadian ex-swimmer and trainer Gary Vandermeulen , founded a swimming school (Sheppard Swim School) and the Phoenix Aquatics Swim Club in Stirling . She lives with her husband and their three sons in Stirling and works as a commentator on major swimming events.
