The FK Kolín is a Czech football club from the Central Bohemian town of Kolín .

Club history

FK Kolín was founded in 1912 as SK Sparta Kolín. The association existed under this name until 1948. As a result of the February revolution in 1948, the association was incorporated into the Sokol organization . From 1951 the club traded as ZJS Koramo Kolín, from 1953 as DSO Jiskra Kolín and from 1957 finally as TJ Jiskra Kolín. After the Velvet Revolution, the club returned to its original name, Sparta. Until then, the men's team only played on a regional level.

In 1991, the team succeeded in promotion from the fifth division to the Divize, the fourth highest division. In 1995, with the entry of the sponsor Koramo, the game rights were transferred to its own subsidiary SK Sparta Kolín sro, which was renamed FK Mogul Kolín sro in 1996. Mogul is a brand of Koramo (or its successor Poramo) for motor oils and similar products. The goal was promotion to the ČFL , the third highest Czech league. The team achieved this goal in the 1998/99 season with the championship in Divize C.

Two years later, the team was promoted to the 2nd division , but the problems that had existed for some time with the main sponsor Koramo Kolín now also affected the club. The squad was not suitable for the second division, and FK Kolín had to leave the professional area after only one season.

Relegation from the ČFL followed three years later, but the team managed to return immediately in the 2005/06 season. In 2008 it went down one floor again, and at the end of the 2008/09 season the team even had to move into the fifth division. The new management team managed to stabilize the club and prevent a deeper fall. In the summer of 2010, FK Kolín celebrated their return to the Divize, and in 2012 their promotion to the ČFL.

The team won the championship in the 2013/14 season, but the board hesitated to register for the second division because the club was not economically prepared for professional football and the squad was not competitive. After a long back and forth, they finally exercised their right of promotion and returned to the second division after twelve years. However, the direct relegation followed in the coming season.
