Jana Olexandriwna Klotschkowa ( Ukrainian Яна Олександрівна Клочкова , scientific transliteration Jana Oleksandrivna Kločkova ; English: Yana Klochkova ; born August 7, 1982 in Simferopol , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Ukrainian swimmer .

Career

Klotschkowa lives in Kiev and since the late 1990s, one of the world's top layer swimmers in the world. At the 1998 World Swimming Championships in Perth , she won the silver medal in the 400 m medley and first attracted the attention of the international swimming world. Since the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , she has been the best swimmer on the individual medley courses. In Sydney she won two gold medals (the 400 m individual medley even in world record time) and a silver medal. At the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka , she was only beaten on the short layer distance, but was able to add the gold medal over 400 m freestyle. In Barcelona 2003 she dominated the individual locations again at the World Cup. The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens would then be another highlight of her career. Again she was able to win the gold medal over 200 m and 400 m individual medley.

After the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , where she was the flag bearer of Ukraine when it opened on August 8, she announced that she would retire as an active competitive athlete.
