Alessia Filippi (born June 23, 1987 in Rome ) is an Italian swimmer .

Career

Their particular strengths are the long stretches of position and back . She lives and trains in Rome. In 2005 she was fifth at the swimming world championships over the 200 m back distance. At the 2004 European Swimming Championships in Madrid , Filippi had to be content with seventh place over the 400 m individual medley before she made her international breakthrough at the 2006 and 2008 European Swimming Championships and won the title over this distance. In 2008 in Eindhoven she was also able to secure the European championship title in the 800 m freestyle.

At the Italian Championships in 2008 on July 16, 2008, she set a new European record for the 1500 m freestyle and improved the year-old record set by Flavia Rigamonti by no less than 2.54 seconds. On August 16, 2008 Filippi won the silver medal in the 800 m freestyle at the Olympic Games in Beijing .

At the swimming world championships in Rome in 2009 , she won her first world championship title in the 1500 meter freestyle in front of a home crowd, and came third in the 800 m freestyle.
