Medals

Dagmar Hase (born December 22, 1969 in Quedlinburg ) is a former German swimmer and Olympic champion.
Career
At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , Dagmar Hase beat defending champion and top favorite Janet Evans from the USA over 400 meters freestyle .
At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , Hase finished second over the same distance. Hase won two other silver medals in the 800 meter freestyle and the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay. She also won a bronze medal in the 200 meters freestyle.
Measured by her Olympic medals, the rabbit, who is far more successful than swimmers like Franziska van Almsick or Sandra Völker in terms of her fame , only caused a greater stir in a television interview following her Olympic victory in Barcelona, in which she described the unfair treatment of her swimming colleague and friend Astrid Strauss denounced by German sports officials.
In 1994 Dagmar Hase hit the headlines again when she ceded her starting place on the 200-meter freestyle course to her team-mate Franziska van Almsick at the World Swimming Championships in Rome. The Berliner, who started as the German hope for a gold medal on this route, had missed the final with the ninth fastest time, one place behind Hase. So van Almsick was able to start and won the gold medal with a new world record time. Bunny, on the other hand, became a tragic figure when she also finished ninth in the 400-meter freestyle. Team colleague Jana Henke , who qualified eighth , did not renounce in favor of Olympic champion Hase, took her right to start and came in sixth. Initially it was reported that Hase had received a vacation trip from the sponsor of the German Swimming Association in recognition of her selfless attitude . 25 years later, she denied this and stated that she had only received a bouquet of flowers.
GDR doping
As with many other former GDR top swimmers, for example Kristin Otto , Heike Friedrich , Sylvia Gerasch or Daniela Hunger , Dagmar Hase was also accused of the 1998 doping trial against former GDR trainers Dieter Lindemann and Volker Frischke systematic doping between 1982 and 1988, the accusation of taking illegal performance-enhancing substances and the unlawful successes achieved with them.
After reunification, it became known that, in addition to Kristin Otto , Heike Friedrich and Daniela Hunger , Hase also took illegal performance-enhancing substances at the 1989 European Swimming Championships in Bonn . The testosterone content of women corresponded to that of a normal man and was thus far above the normal female value. Dagmar Hase rejected these allegations.
resignation
Dagmar Hase retired from active swimming in 1998. She is now a junior coach at SC Magdeburg , for whom she started earlier.
