Angela Franke (born November 18, 1957 in Magdeburg ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the GDR .

She achieved her first successes on the single-layer route. In this discipline, they also took part in the Olympics in 1972 in Munich in part, but could not reach the finals there. As a world record holder in the 400 meter individual medley, she started at the first swimming world championships in 1973 in Belgrade , where she was beaten by her compatriot Gudrun Wegner and thus became vice world champion. A year later she won gold at the European Championships in Vienna in the 400 meter freestyle and with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay.

In 1973 she was able to improve the world record in the 400 meter medley - and in 1974 the European record in Vienna in the 400 meter freestyle .

She ended her swimming career in 1975 with a bronze medal in the 200 meter medley at the World Championships in Cali .
