Karen Harup
Karen Margrethe Harup (born November 20, 1924 in Skovshoved , Gentofte , † July 19, 2009 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish swimmer .
After the Second World War, she was one of the best European swimmers and at the European Championships in 1947 she became European champion over 100 m backstroke , 400 m freestyle and the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay . At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 she was Olympic champion over 100 m back and won silver over 400 m freestyle and with the Danish 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.
After these games, she ended her career and became a swimming instructor. In 1975 she was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
