Joan Harrison (swimmer)
Joan Harrison (born November 29, 1935 in East London ) is a former South African swimmer .
At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , at the age of 16, she was Olympic champion over 100 m back in 1: 14.3 minutes . At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver in 1954 , she won two gold medals, one silver and one bronze, before retiring from swimming at the age of 17. In 1982 she was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
