Dieter Lindemann

Dieter Lindemann (born June 25, 1951 in Gützkow ; † January 1, 2003 ) was a German athlete and swimming coach.

Career

Dieter Lindemann was an enthusiastic athlete from youth and wanted to become a trainer in the field of athletics himself. At the request of his parents, however, he first completed vocational training and, in addition to the training time in evening school, made up his Abitur in order to acquire the higher education entrance qualification. His goal was the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig . Because of the "demand situation" he had to choose the profession of swimming coach and finished his studies in 1977 with a university degree as a certified sports teacher with special training in sports swimming (trainer A license). Dieter Lindemann looked after many well-known and successful swimmers in the course of his career. From 1977 to 1991 he worked as a trainer in the sports club SC Dynamo Berlin and SC Berlin . From 1991 to 1992 he was regional trainer for Berlin and then until 1997 federal base trainer of the DSV in Berlin, from 1996 chief base trainer. He was a member of the DSV coaching council (1993–1997). In 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996 he was a coach at the Olympic Games . From 1998 he worked as a freelance trainer, including from 2000 to 2003 trainer for SV Halle .

Sporting successes

As a coach, he and his athletes won 4 × gold, 5 × silver, 4 × bronze at the Olympic Games, 3 × gold, 2 × silver, 4 × bronze at world championships, 19 × gold, 10 × silver, 3 × bronze and at European championships at the European Youth Championships 40 × gold, 15 × silver, 1 × bronze. In addition to first places in the World and European Cup, twelve world records and several European records, countless GDR and German championship titles as well as Spartakiade winners and placed, team championship titles , GDR and German records in all ages are among the successes of his athletes. In 1988 he was awarded the Order Banner of Labor Level I in the GDR .

The athletes he supervised included the Olympic champion Katrin Meißner , the two-time world champion Sylvia Gerasch , Franziska van Almsick , world champion Steffen Zesner and Cathleen Rund . He also trained the European youth champions Bettina Ustrowski , Uta Mückel , Suhela Knipphals , Jessica Reim and Kristin Helm .

Berlin doping trial

In the Berlin doping process in 1998, u. a. the trainers Dieter Lindemann, Volker Frischke , Rolf Gläser and the doctor Bernd Pansold accused of doping underage swimmers. The proceedings against Lindemann and Frischke, who are said to have doped swimmer Sylvia Gerasch with anabolic steroids since 1982, were discontinued due to minor guilt. The previously dismissed Lindemann sued for reinstatement and had to be reinstated by the DSV as he refused a severance payment.
