Martina Grunert (* 17th May 1949 in Leipzig as Martina Abresch ) is a former German swimmer who for the DDR started.

Her first major international sporting event was the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo , in which she participated as a 15-year-old as part of the all-German Olympic team and achieved sixth place with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay as her best result.

The first sporting successes came in 1966 when she became European champion in a new European record time in 01: 01.2 over 100 meters freestyle . At the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968 , she was fifth over the 100 meter freestyle course, with the GDR's 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay she won the silver medal. She won her last major title at the European Championships in Barcelona in 1970 with a gold medal in the 200 meter medley. Then she resigned from competitive sports.
