Klaas-Erik Zwering

Klaas-Erik Zwering (born May 19, 1981 in Eindhoven ) is a former Dutch swimmer . From the late 1990s he was one of the best swimmers in his country.

Zwering trained in the swimming performance center of PSV Eindhoven under Jacco Verhaeren . Originally, he had focused on the back distances . He celebrated his first international success in 1999 at the European Junior Championships in Moscow when he won the bronze medal over 100 m back. In the same year he won the title at the European Swimming Championships in Istanbul with the Dutch 4 × 100 m layer relay .

A year later he made his debut at the Olympic Games in Sydney , but did not get beyond tenth place in his favorite discipline 200 m back. After this disappointing result, he shifted more to freestyle skiing . The move paid off. At the 2001 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka , he won the silver medal as a member of the Dutch 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. Finally, he won the silver medal over 4 × 100 m at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens together with Johan Kenkhuis , Mitja Zastrow and Pieter van den Hoogenband .

After the Athens Games, Zwering resigned from active competitive sports and concentrated on his management studies .
