Mark Warnecke (born February 15, 1970 in Bochum ) is a doctor and a former German swimmer .
Career
Warnecke was a specialist in the short breaststroke stretches. On the short course, he became world champion in the 100 m chest for the first time in 1995. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta he won the bronze medal over 100 m breaststroke, this was his greatest success on the long track until 2005, for which he was also awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by the Federal President. Warnecke started for the SG Essen .
The long-time active spokesman for the German Swimming Association had already announced in the spring of 2005 that he had not felt as fit as he had been in a long time, as he had been spared the bad luck with injuries for a long time. He attributed this to the fact that, in turning away from the classic training plans, he put more emphasis on competition endurance and short-term endurance. At the 2005 World Swimming Championships in Montréal , he won the gold medal over 50 m breasts and at the age of 35 is the oldest world champion in the history of swimming since 1971. At 36 he won the German championships over 50 m breasts for the tenth time.
According to him, he owes his success to an amino acid preparation he developed himself.
He ended his swimming career on April 14, 2007 during the 119th German Swimming Championships .
