Margin notes

The European champions Antje Buschschulte and Helge Meeuw both missed their heats over the 100 m butterfly after waiting too long for their luggage at Berlin-Tegel Airport . Following the World Swimming Championships in Melbourne in 2007, the two took a week's vacation in Australia and took a flight later than planned.

Former world champion Mark Warnecke ended his career at the age of 37 after his preliminary victory over the 50m chest.
