Birte Steven (born October 11, 1980 in Hanover ) is a German swimmer who has competed for AMTV-FTV Hamburg since 2006 .

Career

Birte Steven began her swimming career in Lower Saxony at SC Barsinghausen. In 2004 she became German champion and in 2006 German winter champion in the 200 m breaststroke . In 2004 she took part in the Olympic Games in Athens and reached eleventh place, also over 200 meters chest. In November 2006 she was ranked 12th in the world in this discipline. At the Swimming World Championships in Melbourne in 2007 , she reached the semi-finals over the 100-meter course, where she finished 14th in 1: 09.46 minutes. In the final over 200 m breaststroke, she finished sixth with 2: 28.13 minutes. At the following German championships she won a new German record (2: 25.33 minutes).

Birte Steven is a doctoral candidate in neurosciences at the Eppendorf University Medical Center in Hamburg .
