Orlando Serrell (* 1969 in Newport News , Virginia ) is an American island talent . Unlike most islanders, he does not have his special abilities from birth.

Life

Orlando Serrell is from the city of Newport News, Virginia. He was a normally gifted boy who enjoyed playing sports, including baseball . At the age of ten, he was hit by a baseball on the left side of his head on August 17, 1979 and then briefly passed out. He did not tell his parents about the incident or see a doctor himself. However, he had a headache for a long time after the accident.

Months later, Serrell found that he could memorize any number of things like license plates on cars, memorize weather reports, and flawlessly recite the lyrics of pop songs. Since then he has not forgotten a detail from his memory.

When the media became interested in his skills, he appeared in several local magazines. In 2002 he performed at the New York University of Columbia and showed his skills there with the help of an MRI . On January 13, 2003, the BBC broadcast a documentary on Savants that also featured Serrell.

Orlando Serrell has lived in Newport News, Virginia since he was born. He works as a caretaker for a supermarket chain.

Skills

Serrell has had a calendar brain since his accident : he memorizes every single detail of every day and can recite this information at will. However, he does not consciously apply his memory.

His skills have been tested many times by neurologists and autism researchers. So far it has not yet been clarified how Serrell manages to access his memory contents. Brain scans with computer tomographs did not provide any new findings either.

Meanwhile, Serrell has begun to extend his calendar ability to the time before his accident.
