The 130th International German Swimming Championships took place from July 19 to 22, 2018 for the 15th time in a row in the swimming and diving hall in the Europa Sport Park Berlin and were organized by the German Swimming Association . Titles were awarded in 42 competitions, with Damian Wierling being the most successful athlete in these championships with five titles (3 in singles and 2 in relays).

The 100 fastest swimmers on the "Best List of the Open Class" of the DSV as well as the 30 fastest athletes on the "Junior Best List" of the DSV (Jg99 / 00w and Jg98 / 99m), who reached the qualification times in advance, were eligible to start on the individual courses. The qualification period ran from December 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018. For German athletes with the right to start for foreign clubs or foreign swimmers, the period from December 1, 2017 to June 17, 2018 applies.

In the relays, the 100 fastest teams were allowed to start per competition route, with the field of participants being limited to 50 relays.

567 swimmers from 168 clubs were registered for 1561 individual starts and 170 relays. With 43 players, Kuwait (international) and SG Essen (national) with 17 players made up the largest teams.

Records

The sporting highlight of the championships was the German record of Ramon Klenz 's 200m butterfly. With this, Klenz improved Michael Groß's 32-year-old record from 1986 from 1: 56.24 to 1: 55.76.

German age class records for young people have been improved five times: Marius Zobel over 400 meters freestyle, Melvin Imoudu over 50 meters chest, Silas Beth over 800 meters freestyle, Luca Nik Armbruster over 50 meters and 100 meters butterfly.
