Ramon Klenz

Ramon Klenz (born August 2, 1998 in Leipzig ) is a German swimmer in the medley and butterfly disciplines .

Career

Ramon Klenz started swimming with the Leipzig club SSV Leutzsch. In his childhood he also did gymnastics and tournament dancing. After eighth grade, he moved to Hamburg in September 2013, where he started for the Hamburg swimming club and trained with Veith Sieber at the Olympic base there .

At the German Championships 2017 he was third in the 400 m individual medley. On December 14, 2017, he won his first national championship title at the German Short Course Championships over 200 m butterfly. At the German Championships in 2018 he won over 400 m medley as well as 100 and 200 m butterfly. With 1: 55.76 min over the 200 m butterfly he set a new German record, surpassing Michael Groß's 32-year-old record from 1986. He was then nominated for the European Championships in Glasgow two weeks later , where he was eliminated in eleventh place in the semifinals with 1: 57.47 min over the 200 m butterfly.

At the European Short Course Championships in Glasgow in 2019 , Klenz won the 200 m butterfly in 1: 51.51 minutes. the silver medal.

Several of Klenz's ancestors were also successful swimmers. His mother Sabine Krauss (formerly Klenz, née Herbst) was an Olympic participant and was four times German champion, his grandmother Eva Herbst (née Wittke) was fifth in the 1968 Olympic Games , his grandfather Jochen Herbst was at the Summer Olympics 1968 he took seventh place with the freestyle relay, his uncle Stefan Herbst won bronze at the 2001 and 2003 world championships in the freestyle relay, his father Karl-Heinz "Fiete" Klenz was a medalist at German championships and a member of the national team.
