IC 1199 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Serpens the celestial equator . It is an estimated 215 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 80,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 6081 , IC 1196 , IC 1205 , among others .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on June 28, 1890 .
