IC 1186 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 471 million light years away from the Milky Way and is about 110,000 ly in diameter. The galaxy is a member of the Hercules galaxy cluster Abell 2151 .
The galaxies IC 1173 , IC 1178 , IC 1181 , IC 1188 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 15, 1892 .
