IC 1189 is an active lenticular galaxy with a high rate of star formation of the Hubble type SB0 / a R in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 525 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years across. The galaxy is considered a member of the Hercules Cluster .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6053 , NGC 6061 , IC 1190 , IC 1191 .

The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on June 7, 1888 .
