NGC 6053 = NGC 6057 is a 14.7  mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E2 in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 478 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is considered a member of the Hercules galaxy cluster Abell 2151 .

In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6055 , IC 1177 , IC 1189 , IC 1190 .

The object was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on June 6, 1886 . Due to an oversight while observing NGC 6055 two days later, Swift again noted a new discovery that led to a second entry in the catalog under NGC 6053 . NGC 6057 is used by the database Simbad the galaxy PGC 57090 assigned by Seligman Curtney the galaxy PGC 57076 .
