Arp 272 is an interacting pair of galaxies in the constellation Hercules , which is approximately 475 million light years from the Milky Way . Its components have the catalog designations NGC 6050 and IC 1179 .

Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This pair of galaxies belongs to the class double galaxies with linked arms .

NGC 6050 was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on June 27, 1886 .
