NGC 3239 = Arp 263 is an irregular galaxy of the Hubble type IBm / P in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 30 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light-years across.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 607 .
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of galaxies with irregular clusters .
The type IIP supernova SN 2012A was observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 21, 1784 .
