NGC 3251 = IC 2579 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 225 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 135,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 213705, it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 195 .
In the same area of ​​the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 2583 .

The Type Ia supernova SN 1999gj was observed here.

The object was discovered by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest on February 19, 1862 .
