NGC 3243 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Sextant south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 241 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 100,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy IC 609 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on April 2, 1886 .
