IC 2587 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / SB0 in the constellation Air Pump in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 85 million light-years from the Milky Way , about 50,000 ly in diameter, and the brightest member of the Antlia galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 3268 , NGC 3269 , NGC 3281 , IC 2584 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on May 1, 1900 .
