NGC 1741 = Arp 259 is an interacting galaxy pair (NGC 1741A & B) in the constellation Eridanus, approximately 176 million light years from the Milky Way . It is part of the Hickson Compact Group HCG 31 .
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of galaxies with irregular clusters .
The object was discovered on January 6, 1878 by Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan .
