NGC 1723 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 162 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 125,000 ly. In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1721 , NGC 1725 , NGC 1728 .
The object was discovered on January 12th, 1882 by Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel .
