NGC 1716 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Rabbit ( Latin Lepus ) in the southern sky . It is an estimated 299 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy NGC 1692 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on December 11, 1835 .
