NGC 1721 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 196 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1723 , NGC 1725 , NGC 1728 .
The object was discovered on November 10, 1885 by Edward Emerson Barnard .
