Heinz Peschke (born December 29, 1936 in Annaburg , Province of Saxony ; † March 30, 2018 ) was a German agricultural scientist and professor of plant nutrition .

Live and act

Heinz Peschke was born in Annaburg in the Torgau district of the Prussian province of Saxony as the son of a farmer. He completed an apprenticeship as an agricultural assistant in his parents' business, attended the agricultural college in Zschortau , graduating as a state-certified farmer and worked as an agronomist in the Prignitz from 1956 to 1958 . From 1958 he studied at the Agricultural and Horticultural Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin (HUB), which he finished in 1962 with a degree in agriculture. He then worked for two years in the agricultural administration of the Zossen district and in the Lietzen teaching and experimental farm in the Seelow / Mark district.

In 1964 Peschke became an assistant at the Institute for Soil Science and Plant Nutrition at the HUB, and received his doctorate in 1968 under W. Hähnel (1910-1980). agr., habilitated in 1974 - meanwhile senior assistant in his scientific field of the plant production section - with a PhD B for his subject and received the Facultas Docendi for plant nutrition. In 1987 he was appointed associate professor for plant nutrition and in 1991 - after the political change - as university professor for plant nutrition and fertilization. From 1992 Peschke headed the Institute for Soil Fertility and National Culture as managing director and, after the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture and Horticulture, from 1994 to March 31, 2002, he also headed the Institute for Plant Nutrition as head of the plant nutrition department.

Appreciation

Peschke was actively involved in research and teaching and led several research projects on plant nutrition and fertilization, mainly financed by the German Research Association (DFG). He worked very intensively on 15N isotope research for the detection of the transport routes of nitrogen in the soil and the plant. He maintained close contact both with agricultural practice and with domestic and foreign scientific colleagues. He was the author of several textbooks for university studies as well as the author and co-author of over 200 scientific publications and worked in numerous scientific societies and specialist working groups, such as the Association for the Promotion of Environmentally Friendly Fertilization in Brandenburg. Numerous young scientists did their doctorates with him.
